Internship
“Knowing is not enough; we must apply” (Goethe)

They say an internship whose added value enhances students’ skills and knowledge and a company’s organizational culture opens the letter to success. In view of such philosophies, Fortech is able to stand up to principles of quality, professionalism, efficiency, and commitment when it comes to internship programs. Fortech aims at bridging a gap between university theory and the real work world, thus, allowing students to experience the roles, the expectations, and the behaviors of the job arena. Our training specialists in Fortech approach internships programs with the main focus on teaching and guiding interns towards task fulfillment and effectiveness in project handling and management.

To Fortech, internship sessions encompass not only ways for employees to “give back to the community” while boosting the company’s prestige and services. It goes without saying  that the real added value to internship programs arises when, at its conclusion, the company is able to evaluate itself in terms of creating a pipeline of productive talents for a potential workforce while also adding bricks to hands- on experience in training abilities and expertise and workshops.

Fortech’s internship programs aim at facilitating students’ entry in the job market and speed up to a most suitable job in the IT field. The apprenticeship period ought to make students aware of the importance of continuous learning and hard work in order to reach professionalism.

Summer Internship 2009 Train4Tech

On the footsteps of the internship program tradition started in 2007, Fortech turned once more to the arising needs of students in the IT University departments by organizing an internship session for the summer of 2009. The close collaboration with both the Technical University of Cluj and the Babes Bolyai University lies at the core of the whole Internship program, as Fortech is an acknowledged partner of both since 2008.

Recruiting and Selection Stage:
  • Fortech made its offer visible to students through workshops and presentations;

  • 3 positions have been advertised: on Java, .Net, and C++;

  • Out of 70 well-written and impressive CVs and Letters of Application, only 32  have been selected for the testing phase;

  • 32 candidates took the technical tests (Technical Test Java/ C++/ .Net; Algorithms’ Test; OOP and DB) and the English test;

  • The interviews with the Human Resource Manager and the General Manager were decisive in the choosing the 3 interns that would do their internship within Fortech, for approximately 2 months (starting with July).

Internship Implementation:
  • Developing the skills of the interns in the application of theory to practical work situations as well as enhancing their potential;

  • Hands-on laboratory framework has been replaced with actual project work- this session differed slightly from the others in that, that the interns were actually allocated in projects, working under deadline conditions and client requirements;

  • Benefiting from strict supervision and continuous guidance from our specialist trainers.

 Results:
  • Facilitating the transfer of knowledge and deep IT Know How from specialists to interns;

  • Providing both networking opportunities between interns and the Fortech team, as well as opportunities for students to test compatibility of their chosen major and company in advance of graduation and full-time employment;

Summer Internship 2008 Train4Tech

The on-the-job training sessions enclosed in the 2008 Fortech Summer Internship provided opportunities for experimentation and evaluation of strengths and potential- both for Fortech and for the interns. Fortech went ahead confident that, the systematic process developed by trainers during the internship session will, on the one hand, benefit students in their acquisition of skills and abilities, and on the other hand, optimize the continuous progress of Fortech’s organizational culture in yielding new perspectives.

Recruiting and Selection Stage:
  • Fortech advertised 3 positions for each technology (Java, .NET and C++) in strong collaboration with Technical University of Cluj and the Babes University;

  • Over 150 candidates held the technical tests, out of which only 12 made it through the final stages and have been eventually admitted;

  • The 2008 Internship Program consisted of two sessions: the first one- July-August; the second one: August-September;

  • the Fortech team consisted of 6 internal trainers.
Internship Implementation:

This Internship session organized the interns in 2 teams (6 people) / per each session, and took the form of projects. Thus, each team had to organize and manage itself in order to deliver, under supervision, an application from A to Z. Needless to say, the learning methods involved practical examples, enabling interns to get through each stage of a project’s development process while also learning how to apply specific software development tools.

Results:

At the completion of the internship program, the interns prided on having attained a clear understanding of the Software Development Process, as implemented in such a company. The real work-based activities have introduced them in the most relevant aspects of IT: Technology, Process and People while also teaching them the importance of delivering the application at the required standards of quality within the predetermined deadline framework. The internship ended with a “graduation” festivity, each team presenting a demo of their application.

At the completion of the internship, interns have been able to apply the key concepts, the methods and the specific theories in the areas of the technology they’ve studied. Additionally, their skills in presentation and communication of ideas, problem solving and creative thinking, information searching and project planning been considerably improved.

The results of each team reflected once more that a good programmer is not only a good coder. Getting in touch and correctly approaching the whole Software Development Process is the best advantage a future IT scientist can achieve.

Summer Internship 2007 Train4Tech

Relying on its main assets- People, Process and Technology, Fortech proactively initiated its first internship program in collaboration with the Technical University of Cluj, and The Babes Bolyai University. It was a first small step in what was to become a great project for Fortech and its team of trainers, and a great leap in enhancing the company’s values and principles.

Internship Implementation:

Fortech has come up with this a concept of training- Hands-on Laboratories, which enabled each attendee to cover the whole Software Development Process. The participants have been divided in 3 teams (9 people), based on the technology they choose to study (Java, .NET, C++). At the beginning of the training the participants have been given a theme – a software application that needed to be developed from A to Z. The learning method is focused on practical examples; each concept is being applied within the proposed 6 weeks of internship. It was in this way, that interns passed through each stage of developing a project, learning to use and practical apply specific software development tools.

At the conclusion of the Hands-On Laboratories session, the participants were expected to gain a good understanding of the Software Development Process as a result of the carrying out the project management through real work-based activities.

Results:

The Hands-On Laboratories session enabled the interns to develop the knowledge and skills required in order to work effectively in a Software Development company.They explored the three main aspects of IT: Technology, Process and People. In terms of Technology, they applied familiar or new concepts so as to deliver the required application within the established deadline and at the highest standard of quality. In terms of People, they integrated in the team and worked within in for the completion of the project. In terms of Process, they covered the stages of software development:

  • Creating project visions
  • Getting project requirements and specifications
  • Analyzing requirements
  • Designing the system
  • Implementing the system
  • Testing and bug-fixing
  • Delivering the system

The interaction with students during an internship program endorsed, for Fortech, principles of performance management and organizational development. The internship at Fortech constituted more than glimpsing at its specific market and industry orientation; Fortech recognized this internship session as an effective recruiting tool, as at its conclusion, several of our interns became full-time employees. The internship session brought us satisfaction and fulfillment, yet it also provided the grounds for higher-ups in terms of training organization in order to still keep a competitive edge in the business.
