Startup Weekend Cluj, a Vibrant Marathon of Ideas

Startup Weekend Cluj, a vibrant marathon of idea

In our ongoing support for initiatives meant to improve the know-how and boost the entrepreneurial spirit in Cluj-Napoca, we once again joined the Startup Weekend Cluj project, a vibrant marathon of ideas for would-be and seasoned entrepreneurs. Fortech was a Gold Sponsor of the event for the second time and eight Fortech team members participated, eager to demonstrate their entrepreneurial prowess. The enthusiasm the Startup Weekend raised in the company gave us an additional reason to be proud for having supported the event.

The Startup Weekend events are all based on the same template: anyone willing to get their ideas validated and converted into a business model can attend. The best ideas are filtered through collective vote and used over the next 54 hours or so to generate business models, designed and coded into real products, which undergo a “market validation” from the local entrepreneurial leaders.

The Cluj event attracted over 100 enthusiastic participants, who presented more than 50 ideas in the opening day. 14 teams formed organically around these ideas, which were implemented over the weekend and evaluated by a jury that included Calin Vaduva, Fortech’s CEO. The winners, announced after long and heated debates, were: UserVibes, a solution for key feature prioritization of the product roadmap based on user insights collected by customer support teams (third place), ZenQ: the mobile version of the LinkedIn professional skill endorsement feature, but for personal qualities (second place), and Engagement Management, a tool aiming at transforming performance management processes in engagement management processes (the WINNER).

“An intense mix of enthusiasm, teamwork and boldness is what we saw at Startup Weekend Cluj this year. An impressive number of participants and ideas pitched in. All in all, an event that matures with every new edition and which we are glad to support”, said Calin Vaduva, following his attendance at Startup Weekend Cluj.
